Ageing into Frailty
Mertyl and Peter
Mertyl and Peter are a married couple who at the time of filming had been together for 68 years. Having been retired for some years Mertyl and Peter are now experiencing a range of health conditions and their mobility is declining. Here they reflect on their experience of getting older, loosing independence, and their increasing need for healthcare support.
John is a Ugandan migrant who trained as a doctor in Zambia. John practiced as a doctor in a number of African countries and worked in medical education in the UK. John reflects on his position as a medically educated older person now in need of healthcare himself.
Arvind migrated from India to the UK in the 1970s. Now retired Arvind spends most of his time volunteering at his local temple. Arvind has very little time to think about his health but when he does interact with healthcare professionals he likes to be told what he needs to do and can feel anxious waiting for results.
